| Assistant Fire Data Analyst | Duties of the Assistant Fire Data Analyst include spreadsheet data entry; as well as forecasting costs and fire-suppression resource needs from spreadsheet models. The assistant may work in a variety of roles within the fire management organization, as required by emergency situations as they arise. The assistant will aid with the development of a wide variety of analytical products that involve collecting and organizing information and data; data analysis; running spreadsheet models; forecasting trends; and writing business and operation reports. The assistant will be working primarily in an office environment and must be familiar with standard (Windows-based) computer systems. |
| Assistant Fire Technician | Duties of the Assistant Fire Technician are primarily to assist staff in the Provincial Response Centre during normal and escalated fire situations. Duties may include daily updating of display boards, maps and charts; inputting of weather data; assisting the PRC Intelligence Officer with the daily fire hazard mapping products; assisting with the daily compiling of the Fire Response Resources Model; maintaining and updating display products (PowerPoint presentations, Fire Perimeter Maps, etc.); maintaining and filing documentation regarding Ontario project fires; completing assigned clerical functions (e.g., filing, invoicing, typing, assembling correspondence packages) as assigned within the PRC; as well as collecting, compiling and reporting data; and working with specialized equipment (e.g., desktop and handheld computers, weather stations). |
| Assistant Fire Training Technician | Duties of the Assistant Fire Training Technician include assisting with ongoing projects for the Training Coordinator and two Training Specialists. This will involve advanced internet research; development and maintenance of databases; data input; summarization of data through development of spreadsheets, charts and graphs; collection and organization of information and data; data analysis; the running of spreadsheet models; liaison with various field staff; field audits; simulation technology reviews; supply inventory; and preparations for course delivery. During escalated emergency situations, the assistant may be required to assist the Logistics Chief in the Provincial Response Centre. This is primarily an office position, but local travel to field sites with the Training Specialist may be required. |
| Assistant Fish Culture Technician | At the Fish Culture Stations, the Assistant Fish Culture Technician will be involved in fish culture related activities such as: feeding, cleaning tanks, monitoring water quality, performing inventories, internal transfers of fish and record maintenance. The assistant will also participate in facility and grounds maintenance. Highly-motivated individuals are required to assist staff with various duties, including leading guided tours of the station and maintaining visitor facilities (where present). Applicants should have an interest in natural resource management. These positions may be approached as foundations for a future career in fisheries management and the growing aquaculture and fish culture industries. |
| Assistant Fisheries Biologist | The duties of the Assistant Fisheries Biologist may include fish population assessment, such as creel surveys, index netting, electro fishing, assessment, data entry and basic analysis. | Assistant Forest Technician | The Assistant Forest Technician will learn about forest biology, compliance monitoring, water crossings, cutover boundaries, forest operations and processes. The assistant may conduct any of these activities: all activities associated with tree breeding; orchard or genetic testing; collecting, processing and testing tree seeds; maintaining forest tree seed processing equipment; assessing forest health; identifying soils and species types; utilizing sampling equipment; and conducting GPS-, map- and aerial-photo reading and interpretation. The assistant will assist with establishment of studies and trials; collect and compile data, and report study results; work with specialized equipment (e.g., desktop and handheld computers, weather stations); conduct specialized lab procedures; and operate mechanical devices. | Climate Change Research Assistant (Wetland Biochemistry) | The Climate Change Research Assistant (Wetland Biochemistry) will conduct end-product analysis from enriched freshwater sediments, using gas chromatography or other analytical methods. This study, conducted in cooperation with the White River Riparian Project (WRRP), seeks to investigate the biogeochemical potential of sediment from a climate change perspective. While working in a technically-demanding laboratory environment, the assistant will be required to perform sample preparation and chemical laboratory analyses; process and summarize data; develop computer software proficiency using word processing, spreadsheets, and graphical programs; and report results in written format. Some fieldwork may also be required. Appropriate safety training and orientation will be provided. |
| Communications Assistant | The Communications Assistant will support the development and maintenance of a number of communications and marketing materials for both technical and general audiences. This office position requires strong communications, organization and computer skills (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) to support internal and external customer service. | Data and Land Records Clerk | The Data and Land Records Clerk will provide land disposition information and copies of patents for requests received by telephone, e-mail, over the internet, or in person from the public or ministry employees. This position requires a mature summer staff member who has excellent customer service skills, and enjoys working with people and has the ability to use a personal computer. The clerk will be trained in the use of the Land Index System (LIS) to update the corporate database. Clerks must be able to accurately file and retrieve correspondence material alphabetically and numerically. Research skills would be an asset. The clerk must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. |
| Ecosystem Restoration Research Assistant | Duties will include assisting the Restoration Ecologist in the set-up and monitoring of field trials examining site preparation techniques, planting methods and ecosystem trajectory. The assistant will help with biological inventories of study sites across southern Ontario with a special emphasis on plant communities. The assistant will also take measurements of site physical and chemical properties with an emphasis on soil characteristics and hydrology regimes. Input and analysis of collected lab and field data will be required. This position requires work outdoors in diverse and sometimes adverse weather conditions. |
| Education Technician | The Education Technician assists in the delivery of natural resources education programming to a wide variety of clients. The assistant will have an ideal opportunity to gain skills related to the development and delivery of natural resources education. Assisting with the organization, promotion and implementation of special events and projects will help the technician to develop writing, planning, marketing, and presentation skills. The technician may work with audio-visual media and media devices to record live events at field locations. Strong computer skills are an asset to download, edit, compile and create files / filing systems for media storage; as well as maintain audio visual equipment. This position is ideally suited to someone with good organization skills, self-motivation, and strong interpersonal and leadership skills. |
| Engineering Assistant | The Engineering Assistant will be provided with a work experience that develops technical and analytical skills, and provides exposure to the petroleum engineering industry. This position may provide an opportunity to interact with people from within government and industry. The assistant will compile, organize and analyze data on subsurface petroleum storage, solution mining and brine disposal in Ontario. Based on the analysis of this data, reports will be prepared and recommendations will be made. This position requires strong computer skills and the ability to work with technical information. |

| Fish and Wildlife Marketing and Education Assistant | As a member of a provincial Fish & Wildlife marketing/education team, you will assist in the development and delivery of various aspects of the Fish & Wildlife communications, youth, and education programs. Responsibilities include: administration and delivery of program elements related to National Fishing Week and the Ontario Family Fishing Weekend; marketing existing programs; administration of education and communications products. | GIS Assistant | The GIS Assistant will be provided with a work experience that develops professional, technical and analytical skills relevant to future employment in the application of geographic information technology. The assistant may research, create, edit and maintain spatial and related attribute data; maintain records of data-creation methods; analyze data; generate maps and tables; and prepare summary reports as required. | Information Technology Assistant | The Information Technology Assistant positions involve one of three areas: Infrastructure Support Technician, Junior Systems Developer or Information Technology Support Services Representative. An Infrastructure Support Technician works with a variety of servers running on different platforms (such as NT, W2K, Unix and the VMS operating systems) to ensure their availability, capacity and reliability. A Junior Systems Developer works on a systems development and maintenance team for fisheries, wildlife, and natural heritage. | Land Information Ontario (LIO) Communications Assistant | The Land Information Ontario (LIO) Communications Assistant position involves various implementing various communication activities related to contact management, marketing, and the development of communications products. The LIO Communications Assistant will assist in the development of a strategy for contacting clients and stakeholders and in the development of communications products such as fact sheets, Web promotions, and advertisements. | Ontario Parks Marketing Assistant | Ontario Parks operates a large souvenir merchandise program at more than 80 retail locations in provincial parks across the province. This merchandise is designed and manufactured exclusively for Ontario Parks. The products are sold at approximately 90 park retail locations across Ontario and over the Internet. The Ontario Parks Marketing Assistant will be responsible for all aspects of receiving and compiling orders from parks; receiving goods from manufacturers; shipping product to parks; monitoring sales; providing customer service to the parks related to merchandise; fielding questions from parks, manufacturers and shippers regarding merchandise; and compiling sales reports received from the stores. | Watershed Stewardship Technician Assistant | The Watershed Stewardship Technician Assistant will provide assistance in the development and implementation of outreach and conservation services programs for private landowners within the watershed. Duties may include assisting with the coordination of education initiatives targeting landowners to promote the protection, enhancement, and rehabilitation of creeks, streams, and natural features. As well assisting landowners in the development and implementation of best management plans for water quality, woodlands, wetlands and fish & wildlife habitat. Additional duties may also include assisting in the delivery of public workshops and events for private landowners on watershed conservation topics, scheduling and facilitation of meetings with project partners, community groups and stakeholders facilitate project delivery. | Wetlands Information Management Assistant | The Wetlands Information Management Assistant will update technical documents, reports and web links. | Wetlands Planning and Development Assistant | The Wetland Planning and Development Assistant will aid with the coordination of wetland-related input to the province's response to West Nile Virus.
