Wade Lake, a bilingual camp, was constructed in 1957 and used as Chief Ranger Division Headquarters to serve the remote Abitibi Area.

Training and Education: Wade Lake Rangers receive training in emergency first aid, Health and Safety, WHMIS, Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Prevention, flatwater canoe skills, bear awareness and safe tool handling.

Other organized learning activities might include a Fire Operations or Enforcement K-9 Unit demonstration. Wade Lake Rangers may participate in educational tours of local resource industries such as a bush operations, Hills Lake Fish Culture Station, a paper mill or a water treatment plant.

Work Projects: Wade Lake Rangers work in Greenwater, Rene Brunelle, and Tidewater Provincial Parks to provide shoreline rehabilitation, boardwalk repairs, mapping trails and canoe routes using GPS, brushing campsites, and general camp maintenance. This type of work often involves multi-day canoe trips.

Rangers do work with many areas of MNR and also with community partners such as tree planting with the Wade Lake Cottager's Association, helping to construct tepees for the Ininew Friendship Centre Pow-wow and Blueberry Festival, working with the City of Timmins paint fish near storm sewers to support the Storm Sewer Awareness Campaign, or small mammal surveys with University of Toronto researchers.

Recreation: Relationship building is one of the best loved attributes of the Ontario Ranger Program. At Wade Lake, rangers will find a number of scheduled recreational activities such as volleyball, basketball, soccer or football games, theme dinners, movie nights in town or at camp, skit night, shopping, local tourist attractions, visiting other Ranger Camps and Jamboree just to name a few. There is also time for unscheduled recreation such as the sauna, ping pong, swimming, fishing, sports, games and more.
