
Location: Sleeping Giant Ontario Ranger Camp is located in MNR's Thunder Bay District and is within beautiful Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.

Training and Education: Sleeping Giant Rangers receive training in emergency First Aid, Health and Safety, WHMIS, Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Prevention, bear awareness and flatwater canoe skills.
Other organized educational activities include things such as orienteering and map reading at Kingfisher Lake Outdoor Education Centre, taking Tallships Leadership Training, an interpretive hike and pond study with Natural Heritage Education or a demonstration from the Thunder Bay City Police K-9 Unit.
Rangers also learn from participating in local tours of places like Lakehead University, Fort William First Nation and Mt. McKay scenic lookout, Thunder Bay Fire Headquarters and Old Fort William Historical Park.
Work Projects: Sleeping Giant Rangers work at Turtle River, Rainbow Falls, Ruby Lake, Neys, Quetico and Sleeping Giant Provincial Parks brushing roads and portages, cleaning up camp sites, removal or repair of boardwalks or bridges and beach clean up. They also paint outdoor signs and buildings and assist in general park maintenance. Rangers will also participate in multi-day canoe trips to work on jobs within interior locations of parks.
Rangers also work on a number of other projects with the ministry and local partners which may include work at the Dorion Fish Culture Station; seine netting fish for tagging and identification; bird banding; river bed restoration or forestry plantation projects.
Recreation: Relationship building is one of the best loved attributes of the program. Rangers will make friendships that will last a lifetime. There are a number of fun organized recreational activities such as a hike to the "Top of the Giant" and camp out, a fishing boat ride to out to Trowbridge Island Lighthouse, tour of Silver Islet and Moonlight Tea, beach volleyball, theme and movie nights.
Rangers will also find time to pursue sporting activities, swimming and just relaxing.
