Location: Kiosk Ranger Camp is located on beautiful Kiosk Lake in the northern interior of Algonquin Provincial Park.
Gender: Male Capacity: 23
Training and Education: Kiosk Rangers receive training in emergency first aid, Health and Safety, WHMIS, Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Prevention, flatwater canoe and water safety and tool safety.
Other organized educational activities may include demonstrations such as MNR fire management or the history of Algonquin Park/Ontario Parks. There are also organized learning tours of places such as logging operations and saw mills, the Algonquin Visitor's Centre or a power generation station.
Work Projects: Kiosk Rangers work within Driftwood and Samuel de Champlain Provincial Parks maintaining portages, campsites, and performing general park maintenance.
Due to the location of the camp, the rangers spend the majority of their time on work projects in the spectacular interior of Algonquin Provincial Park. Rangers will rehabilitate shorelines and campsites, clear access points, post camp signs and build bridges. Much of this work requires multi-day and fly-in canoe trips.
Recreation: One of the best loved attributes of the Ontario Ranger Program are the relationships that develop between the peers and staff at a camp. Many of the friendship made here will last a lifetime. There are a number of organized recreational activities such as sporting games and tournaments, water polo, movie nights, shopping trips to North Bay and the much anticipated annual Jamboree weekend with several other Ontario Ranger Camps.
Rangers will also have unscheduled recreation time to pursue their own interests, like swimming, table tennis, darts, fishing, weight lifting or just relaxing.
