Government Response Statements

Within nine months of completing a recovery strategy (for Endangered or Threatened species) or management plan (for species of Special Concern), the Ministry of Natural Resources must publish a government response statement.

This document outlines the government’s goal for the recovery of the species and summarizes the prioritized actions the government intends to take or support in response to the associated recovery strategy or management plan. It is based on advice provided in the recovery strategy, social and economic factors, and input from stakeholders, other jurisdictions, Aboriginal communities and members of the public.

The ministry must review the progress made toward protecting and recovering a species within five years of the publication of a government response statement.
