Enforcement of the Endangered Species Act 

 


The ESA 2007 has been updated to ensure effective enforcement of the Act, including:

 

  • Maximum fines of $250,000 for individuals, and up to $1 million for corporations
  • Authority for officers to search, seize, make arrests and issue stop orders
  • Courts may order actions to remedy harm caused by offences (i.e. rehabilitation of damaged habitat). 

 

The Endangered Species Act 2007 is enforced primarily by the province's Conservation Officers (see Enforcement link below).
