Windpower Opportunities

Windpower Site Application

How does the application process work?

An individual or company submits an application to the Ministry. The local District office will determine whether the proposed site would be available for wind energy testing, or whether the area should be excluded, for resource or program reasons.

The applicant is given the opportunity to meet with Ministry staff to get further details related to their area of interest.

Applicants may apply for up to 44 grid cells (a grid cell = 45 - 65 ha. depending on location) in a single application.

The applicant has two (2) options for windpower site release

  1. The Competitive Bid Process:  the wind power opportunity is offered to all wind power developers.  The successful bidder will be given the opportunity to proceed with testing and/or environment approvals.
  2. The Non Competitive Right to Explore: The applicant wants to avoid a competitive process and chooses to pay a substantial up front fee. The applicant is then given the opportunity to proceed with testing and/or environmental approvals.
