The Park Visitor Survey Program gathers information about day visitors, campground visitors and backcountry visitors for the purpose of informing park planning, management, research and operations.
Visiting Ontario’s provincial parks is a long standing tradition for many families and friends; for others it is a new adventure. Ontario’s provincial parks attract approximately 1.3 million campers who, in total, spend about 5 million camper nights per year in Ontario provincial park campgrounds. Day use visitors add an additional 4.5 million visitor days per year.
Since 1974, the Government of Ontario has surveyed provincial park users on a regular basis posing questions regarding the services, facilities, and management of these areas. Changes in the frequency of surveys have resulted in eligible parks being surveyed once in a three or four year cycle. The results have been used to support a wide range of planning and management projects, and improve the delivery of provincial park operations.
