How do I order plans from Crown Survey Records?

 

Complete the Survey Information Form (PDF, 104kb) and submit it by email or mail. When completing the form please provide:

  • Accurate contact information in case we have a question about your request.
  • As much detail as possible about the request (e.g. include geographic township, lot, concession, block number, mining claim, district/county, surveyor name, survey date, plan or parcel number, island name/number or patent number).

If you cannot complete the form, please email or phone in your request to surveyrecords@ontario.ca or 705-755-2100.

What information is available from Crown Survey Records?

 

Our automated index system lists a total of 48 different survey record types with more than 200,000 records dating back to the late 1700s.

Is there a charge for requesting survey record information?

 

The survey records are in the process of being transferred to digital format. There may be fees associated with certain requests. Please contact Crown Survey Records at surveyrecords@ontario.ca or 705-755-2200 for more information about a particular order.

When should I contact the Office of the Surveyor General?

 

  • To obtain Crown Survey Records such as copies of original township plans or to receive professional Crown survey advice.
  • If you are trying to find out historical information (original surveys and field notes) about specific townships, lots and concessions etc.
  • If your land is adjacent to Crown Land and you have a specific question about the boundary.
  • If you need to circulate the Ministry of Natural Resources as an adjoining owner for an Application for First Registration under the Land Titles Act or an Application for Boundary confirmation under the Boundaries Act.
  • If you are researching the shore road allowance in front of your property.
  • Crown Survey Records resides in the Crown Land Surveys Unit within the Office of the Surveyor General at the Ministry of Natural Resources and can be reached by email at surveyrecords@ontario.ca or phone 705-755-2100.

How do I get a copy of my patent?

 

Copies of the original patent records are maintained by the Crown Land Registry office of the Land and Water Services Section of the Ministry of Natural Resources. To find out how to request copies please visit the Crown Land Patent Records Internet page.

How do I get a copy of my survey?

 

Land Registry Offices provide registered documents regarding the sale history on private properties. There are 54 Land Registry Offices across Ontario. Each office stores documents (surveys and title information) specific to their area. To find the office in your area, visit Land Registry Office Locations.
