The Office of the Surveyor General's Crown Land Surveys Unit is responsible for the surveying of all Crown land in Ontario and provides the following services:
1. Crown Survey Records
Maintain, preserve and disseminate all Crown Survey Records. Our automated index system lists a total of 48 different survey record types with more than 200,000 records dating back to the late 1700's. These records are stored in an environmentally controlled room. To preserve space, we have started to scan all of our records and store them digitally.

3. Regulation Plans and Descriptions
Review Crown Location plans, prepare legal descriptions and produce regulation plans/descriptive maps for use in Minister's orders, orders in council, regulations, settlement agreements and dispositions. These include descriptive maps for Ontario Parks, Wildlife Management Units, the Oak Ridges Moraine, Greenbelt and First Nation Agreements.
4. Land Titles Act (LTA) and Boundaries Act (BA) Applications
Protect the Crown and public interest including the review of LTA and BA applications, assist counsel to prepare for court proceedings and hearings and attend as expert witnesses.
