Assessment Act (Managed Forests)

Reasoned Decisions of the Commissioner/Deputy Commissioners

Various Ontario tax reduction programs have been replaced with tax incentive programs. The Mining and Lands Commissioner hears appeals involving the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP).

As a result of reforms to the administrative justice system, these appeals are filed with the Assessment Review Board (ARB), offering a one window approach to assessment appeal matters. The ARB administers all files and refers those having managed forest classification issues to the Mining and Lands Commissioner for determination. These decisions are deemed to be decisions of the ARB. Any outstanding valuation issues will then be determined by the ARB.

The official version of the Orders of the Mining and Lands Commissioner and the Deputy Mining and Lands Commissioner is the signed original in the Office file. In the event that there is a question about content, the original in the Office file takes precedence.
