Honouring 20 years of forest research in Sault Ste. Marie

OFRI opened its doors 20 years ago, in December 1990, starting a new chapter in provincial forest research and sparking many discoveries.  The knowledge and tools developed by provincial researchers at OFRI continue to provide a strong scientific foundation for Ontario’s forest policy, planning, and operations. To recognize OFRI’s discoveries over the past 20 years, we revisited back issues of Insights newsletter to spotlight some of the more memorable stories.

Please note that space does not allow us to list all the partners we’ve worked with over the years − but we recognize that their efforts have been critical to OFRI’s research success. They include MNR’s policy, planning, science and information, and field staff; university and college collaborators; forest industry staff; those with other research organizations such as the Canadian Forest Service and Canadian Ecology Centre-Forestry Research Partnership; private consultants; and more.

So how much do YOU know about OFRI’s discoveries? What exciting stories did you miss along the way? Read on to find out!
