Ontario's Controlled Deer Validation Tag Draw

 

Who can hunt controlled deer?

 

An Ontario resident who has a valid hunting version Outdoors Card, a deer licence and who receives a controlled deer validation tag in the draw is permitted to harvest a deer during the controlled deer season in the Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) specified on the tag.

  
 

How do I apply to the draw for an controlled deer validation tag?

 

Hunters who wish to apply to the draw for a controlled deer validation tag may enter the draw between August 1 and September 3, 2013. Three draw application methods are available. Your chance of being drawn for a controlled deer validation tag is the same whether you apply by telephone, Internet, at a participating ServiceOntario centre or at a licence issuer who provides electronic draw entry.

 

  • Telephone Application System

    Call 1-800-288-1155 to apply to the controlled deer draw. Be sure to record the authorization number voiced at the end of the call, for future reference.

  •  

  • Internet

    From the website ontario.ca/outdoorscard, you are able to apply to the controlled deer draw.  Be sure to print or save a copy of your draw application receipt for future reference using the "Print Receipt" button once your draw application has been submitted.
     

  • Participating ServiceOntario Centre or Licence Issuer

    A representative at a participating ServiceOntario centre or licence issuer will assist you in electronically submitting a draw application. Be sure to check your draw confirmation receipt prior to leaving the ServiceOntario centre or licence issuer to ensure your choice has been correctly entered.   View the list of participating ServiceOntario centres and licence issuers who provide this service.  

When entering the draw, all clients are asked to retain the receipt they receive for online and counter draw entries, or the authorization number they receive for telephone transactions, for their records.

 

What is the draw deadline?


The deadline for applications by telephone or Internet is 11:59 p.m. (ET) on September 3, 2013. The deadline for applications made at a participating  ServiceOntario centre or licence issuer is within regular business hours on September 3, 2013.

 

How do I know if my application was successful?


Starting October 10, 2013 draw applicants can call the toll-free Draw Results Line at 1-800-288-1155 or go online at ontario.ca/outdoorscard to get their draw results. All hunters who are successful in the draw will receive their validation tag by mail after the draw is run.

Please note that you are not required to purchase your deer licence tag in order to enter the controlled deer draw, but if you are successful in the draw, be sure to purchase your deer licence tag and game seal before the hunt. You must carry your Outdoors Card, deer licence tag and game seal with validation in order to hunt in the controlled deer hunt.

 

When will I receive my validation tag?
 

If you are successful in the controlled deer draw, you will receive your validation tag in the mail in mid-October.

 

If you do not already have your deer licence tag, you are required to purchase your deer licence tag and game seal directly from a licence issuer or participating ServiceOntario centre before the hunt.

Note that hunters cannot purchase their deer licence tag online or by telephone after July 2, 2013.
