What needs to be done prior to applying to the draw as a group?
Applying in a group increases every hunter's chance of obtaining a moose validation tag for their party. Prior to applying to the draw as a group, you will need to determine the following:
- Does everyone in the group have a valid hunting-version Outdoors Card? What is the Hunt Code that represents the group's choice of Wildlife Management Unit, firearm and type of moose? Does the group have a second choice?
- How many of the group members are in Pool 1 for 2013? Does the group have enough Pool 1 members to meet the Guaranteed Group Size for a tag in the WMU selected?
- Who will be the Group Leader and who will be the Group Members? The Group Leader must be the first member of the group to apply. The Group Leader then gives each Group Member the Group Reference Number which identifies the group and its choices. Each Group Member needs to provide this number when applying to the draw. The maximum number of hunters who can apply as one group is fifteen.
How do I apply as a Group Member to the draw for a moose validation tag?
Hunters who wish to apply to the draw for a moose validation tag may enter the draw between April 18 and May 31, 2013. The Group Leader must be the first person in the group to apply and is the only person who will submit a Hunt Code. The Group Leader receives a Group Reference Number to provide to all the Group Members. When applying as a Group Member, please have your Outdoors Card number and your Group Reference Number available.
There are three ways to enter the draw. Your chance of being drawn for a moose validation tag is the same whether you apply online, by telephone or at a participating ServiceOntario centre or participating licence issuer.
- Telephone Application System – Call 1-800-288-1155 to purchase a moose licence tag and apply to the moose draw in one phone call. Be sure to record the authorization number voiced at the end of the call for future reference. Please note that if you have already purchased your moose licence tag, you will not be able to enter the draw by telephone. If you already have your moose licence tag you must apply for the draw over the Internet or by visiting a participating ServiceOntario centre or participating licence issuer.
- Internet – On the web page ontario.ca/outdoorscard, you can purchase a resident moose licence tag and apply to the moose draw in one transaction. You can also apply just to the draw in a separate transaction if you have already purchased your moose licence tag. Be sure to print or save a copy of your draw application receipt for future reference using the "Print Receipt" button once your draw application has been submitted. Please view the website for detailed step-by-step instructions on applying to the draw.
- Participating ServiceOntario centre or participating licence issuer ‐ A ServiceOntario representative or licence issuer will assist you in purchasing your moose licence tag and electronically submitting your draw application. Be sure to check your draw confirmation receipt prior to leaving the ServiceOntario centre or licence issuer to ensure your choices have been correctly entered. Get a list of participating ServiceOntario centres and participating licence issuers who provide this service.
When is the draw deadline?
The deadline for draw entry online or by telephone is 11:59 p.m. (ET) on May 31, 2013. The deadline for draw entry at a participating ServiceOntario or a participating licence issuer is within regular business hours on May 31.
How do I know if my application was successful?
Starting August 1, draw applicants can call the toll‐free Draw Results Line at 1‐800‐288‐1155 or go online at ontario.ca/outdoorscard to get their individual or group draw results. All hunters who purchased a moose licence tag and/or entered the draw on or before the draw deadline will receive their licence tag and game seal (with validation tag, if successful in the draw) by mail.
