- Ecological Impacts of Fish Introductions: Evaluating the Risk
2000. Kerr, S. J. Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, and R. E. Grant, R. E. Grant and Associates Environmental Advisors.
Summary: This document provides a comprehensive review of life history requirements and potential ecological impacts of introducing various freshwater fishes into a new waterbody. Rarely, does the introduction of a species not have some niche overlap with one or more resident species. There are numerous ways in which stocking programs can harm wild fish stocks and other aquatic organisms. Despite the knowledge gained from collective experiences with introductions, there is still a great deal of uncertainty. In order to objectively evaluate the merits of a potential fish introduction and minimize the possibility of adverse ecological impacts, several general principles and guidelines are provided.

- An Evaluation of Stocking Walleye Fingerlings in Ten Eastern Ontario Lakes, 1984-1993
1995. Seip, D. E. Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Summary: This ten year stocking assessment study in southeastern Ontario was designed primarily to investigate the impacts of stocking fingerling walleye on the recipient lake`s fish community and fishery. Paired plant, predation and seining projects were also implemented in an attempt to provide supplemental information to management questions and investigate the possible mechanisms that may be limiting the survival of stocked fish.

- Guidelines for Stocking Fish in Inland Waters of Ontario
2002. Fish and Wildlife Branch. Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Summary: The stocking of hatchery-reared fish and the transfer of wild fish has been a major component of Ontario`s fisheries management program for over one hundred years. Provincial stocking policies and guidelines should ensure that maximum benefits are provided to the angler from fish stocked and that adverse ecological impacts are avoided. These revised guidelines reaffirm the management principles related to stocking as well as provide technical direction for fish stocking activities in Ontario.

- A Survey of Walleye Stocking Activities in North America
Kerr, S. J. 2008. A survey of walleye stocking activities in North America. Fish and Wildlife Branch. Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. Peterborough, Ontario. 15 p. + appendices
Summary: A survey of walleye (Sander vitreus) stocking activities in North America was conducted in 2007. Forty-one jurisdictions (5 Canadian and 36 American) reportedly stocked
approximately 869 million walleye in 1,989 North American waters during 2006. Most walleye were stocked either to create and sustain recreational fisheries or to rehabilitate
degraded populations. Although fry were the most common life stage stocked, there are indications that more resource management agencies are rearing walleye to the
fingerling stage. It is anticipated that walleye stocking will continue to increase in the future.
