More Information
The Rideau River and Dows Lake in Ottawa…the Thames River in London…Lake Nipissing in North Bay… the Lake Ontario waterfront in Kingston and Toronto. Virtually all of Ontario's larger urban centers are situated on or near water and offer a fantastic diversity of doorstep angling opportunities. Muskellunge, steelhead, walleye and bass are only some of the more popular species which may be angled in Ontario's urban centers.
The Ministry of Natural Resources supports many initiatives designed to promote angling in urban areas. These include access developments, angling information, fishing derbies and festivals, stocking projects and fish habitat restoration. The Tackle Share program, a joint initiative between MNR and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters,
has been developed to lend basic fishing gear to children or novice anglers who do not have their own equipment.
