MANITOULIN ISLAND FACTS

 

  • Manitoulin Island is the largest island (2 700 square kilometres) in Lake Huron, with Georgian Bay to the east and the North Channel to the north.
  • The island has more than 100 lakes, many of which offer exceptional fishing.
  • The island is accessible by road to the north or by ferry from Tobermory to the south-east.

These seasons and limits above only to Manitoulin Island and inland waters including Cockburn Island and do not include South Bay and Lake Wolsey. Bass Creek – Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the islands, from the culvert at Hwy. 6 downstream to the mouth of Bass Creek at Shequiandah Bay. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Apr. 1 to June 15.
Blue Jay Creek – from bridge on Conc. VI in Tehkummah Twp., downstream to the mouth of Blue Jay Creek on Lake Huron. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Mar. 1 to Fri. before 2nd Sat. in May & Sept. 25 to Oct 31.
Blue Jay Creek – Tehkummah Twp. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Mar. 1 to Fri. before 2nd Sat. in May
Kagawong River – Billings Twp., from the bridge on Hwy. 540 downstream to the bridge on Henry Street in the village of Kagawong. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Sept. 25 to Oct. 31
Manitou River – from the bridge on the Government Road in Tehkummah Twp. downstream to the mouth of the Manitou River at Michael’s Bay of Lake Huron. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Mar. 1 to Fri. before 2nd Sat. in May & Sept. 25 to Oct 31.
Mindemoya River – Carnarvon Twp., from the bridge on Hwy. 551/542 downstream to the bridge on Hwy. 551. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Sept. 25 to Oct 31.
