RAINY LAKE FACTS

 

  • Area: 93 200 hectares (230,302 acres)
    Maximum depth: 50 metres  (164 feet)
  • Rainy Lake straddles the Canada-U.S. border east of the town of Fort Frances, in northwestern Ontario. 
  • The second largest lake in Zone 5 (after Lake of the Woods), Rainy Lake has hundreds of kilometres of complex shoreline.

Rainy Lake – Squirrel Falls between Namakan Lake and Rainy Lake, downstream for 250 m (820 ft.) on the north shore and 200 m (656 ft.) on the south shore from the Canadian Kettle Falls Dam. Fish sanctuary – closed all year.
Rainy Lake – Stanjikoming Bay. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Apr. 1 to June 14.
Rainy Lake – Big Canoe River (48O48’N, 93O13’W.) Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Apr. 1 to June 14. 
Rainy Lake – Falls River and Pipestone River from Stokes Bay of Rainy Lake upstream to first rapids. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Apr. 1 to June 14.
Rainy Lake – Little Canoe River (48O54’N, 93O18’W.) Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Apr. 1 to June 14. 
Rainy Lake – Crooked Narrows to Sand Island Falls of Redgut Bay. Fish sanctuary – no fishing from Apr. 1 to June 14.
