Angling Best Practices

Angling is an activity to be enjoyed by all

You can do your part to make sure Ontario’s fisheries can be enjoyed for generations to come. Fishing is an activity that knows no bounds – it can be enjoyed regardless of age, race or ethnic background.

Angling Best Practices:

Respect Each Other

  • Share the water with other users – anglers, boaters and swimmers
  • Racial discrimination has no place in Ontario

Respect Shoreline Property Owners

  • Always ask permission before entering or crossing private property
  • Respect the privacy of the on-shore public when fishing

Minimize your impact on the environment

  • Don’t litter and minimize pollution
  • Help prevent the spread of exotic plants and animals
  • Dispose of your bait and fish entrails properly
  • Know the catch and size limits for the water you are fishing
  • Limit your catch, don’t catch your limit
  • When practising catch and release, handle fish with care and release them as quickly as possible.
