This tutorial explains how to search for a land use amendment in Ontario's Crown Land Use Policy Atlas (the Atlas). The tutorial is divided into two parts: 1) Search for Amendment Information and 2) Display Results.
1) Search for Amendment Information
A radio button in the top left of the Land Use Amendment Search Tool allows movement between an amendment search and a policy report search. Different fields become active depending upon which type of search is selected.
Land use amendment information can be searched by any combination of the following:
Area ID (Area Identification Number)
A search using "Area ID" will return any amendments that affect the chosen land use area. Enter the exact or partial Area ID of the area of interest. See Understanding Area Identification Numbers for an explanation of the term "Area ID".
Area Name
A search using "Area Name" will return any amendments that affect the chosen land use area. Enter the exact or partial name of the area of interest. See Understanding Policy Reports for an explanation of the term "Area Name".
Designation
A search using "Designation" will return any amendments that affect the designation that is selected from the drop down menu. To narrow the search, enter known information in any of the other available search boxes. See Glossary for definitions of the various land use designations.
Category
The "Category" field is used in conjunction with a search using the Provincial Parks or Enhanced Management Area designations. When Provincial Park or Enhanced Management Area is chosen, a choice of corresponding categories is enabled. See Glossary for a list of possible Provincial Park and Enhanced Management area categories.
Administrative Area
A search using the "Administrative Area" field will return all amendments within different Ministry of Natural Resources administrative areas. This drop down menu offers a choice of Park Administrative Zone, Region, or District.
Select
The "Select" field is used in conjunction with a search using "Administrative Area". Options under this heading are only available when an administrative area has been selected. In this drop down menu, Ministry of Natural Resources offices related to the selected administrative area will be listed
Amendment Tracking Number
The "Amendment Tracking Number" field enables a search for a land use amendment in which the amendment tracking number is known. The exact format of the amendment tracking number must be entered (e.g., 2008-001). A search using just the year (e.g., 2008), returns all amendments for which there was a decision issued in that year or minor and major amendments that have "proposed" status during that year. See Glossary for a definition of Amendment Tracking Number.
Amendment Keyword Search
The "Amendment Keyword Search" field enables a search for land use amendments by keyword. All amendments that contain the chosen keyword in the amendment title or amendment summary will be returned. Two keywords may be entered using either "and" or the "or" operator.
Amendment Classification
The "Amendment Classification" field enables a search for land use amendments based on classification. There are three possible classifications: administrative, minor and major. See Amending Land Use Policy for more on amendment classifications.
Amendment Status
Under "Amendment Status" there are three possible selections for status: proposed, approved and rejected.
2) Display Results
Display results are shown directly below the search window. Land use amendment information that matches the search criteria is returned in a table format. Selecting the amendment tracking number retrieves the amendment documentation. If the status of the amendment is "Proposed," then the "Status/Date" column will show the date that the amendment was posted on the Environmental Bill of Rights' Environmental Registry. If the amendment is approved or rejected, then the "Status/Date" column will show the date that the final decision was made. The map link in the right most column links to the map browser or, if the amendment is in progress, to the specific location.
To begin a new search, select the "Clear Search" button in the search window.
