Land Information Ontario (LIO) offers a number of tools to developers to assist with the creation of maps:
- ADDRESS PARSER
The LIO Address Parser is a web service that separates Ontario addresses into components such as house number, street name, direction, municipality and postal code. It can be used as a single service for parsing addresses or in conjunction with other LIO Web Services, such as LIO’s GeoCoder web service.

- GEOCODER
The LIO GeoCoder is a web service that converts Ontario addresses, municipal names, and postal codes from text into geographic coordinates for display as points on maps. Once an address has geographic coordinates it is usable by a Geographic Information System (GIS). The GeoCoder cannot be used on its own and is usually part of a web application.
This service uses three data sets in the LIO Warehouse to determine spatial coordinates: Ontario Parcel, Ontario Road Network, and Postal Code.
