Individuals or agencies that would like to propose a new geographic name, a new geographic feature name or change an existing official name (including the limits to which the name applies) must review the Ontario Grographic Names Board Principles and Procedures, and complete, sign and submit the following form:
All applications for a new name or a revision to an existing name are reviewed by the Ontario Geographic Names Board. The Board meets a minimum of 3 times a year.
Proposals may require extensive investigation before a decision can be made. However, if the Ontario Geographic Name Board receives sufficient documentation of the proposed name’s suitability and of local support for it, the processing time can be greatly reduced.
