The Ministry of Natural Resources use forest management directives and procedures to direct staff in their day-to-day work related to forest management activities. In addition, these directives and procedures can apply to business partners involved in administering forest management related business programs.

In Ontario, forest management includes activities such as forest management planning, forest resource allocation and licensing, forest harvest and renewal operations, forest protection, consideration of wildlife and social values, compliance and enforcement, inventory and monitoring, auditing and public reporting.
