The Scaling Manual defines standards for the training, licensing and approval of scalers and scaling auditors in the province.
This manual is authorized under section 68 (1), of the CFSA and defines the methods of fulfilling the Ministry's scaling requirements. This manual, as authorized by the Forest Operations and Silviculture Manual, also provides direction on assessment of wasteful practices.
Ontario Regulation 283/00 replaces the second paragraph in Part 2, Section 1 (f) (Avoiding Wasteful Practices) in the Scaling Manual, First Edition, (Ontario Regulation 92/95)

Executive Summary
This manual provides standard instructions for determining the quantity, quality and movement of Crown timber harvested in Ontario, as authorized under the Crown Forest Sustainability Act (CFSA).
The manual defines standards for the training, licensing and approval of scalers and scaling auditors in Ontario. It also sets out the obligations of persons holding forest resource licences or receiving Crown timber, for the keeping of records, the completion of returns to the Ministry and other matters concerned with the measurement of Crown timber.
This manual is authorized under section 68 (1), of the CFSA and defines the methods of fulfilling the Ministry’s scaling requirements. This manual, as authorized by the Forest Operations and Silviculture Manual, also provides direction on wasteful practices and unauthorized hauling or unauthorized harvesting.
