Forest Management Class EA Approval (Declaration Order MNR-71) (2003)

Order made under the Environmental Assessment Act

The 2003 Declaration Order, issued by the Ministry of the Environment, extends and amends the original 1994 Timber Class Environmental Assessment Act approval allowing MNR to continue forest management planning on Crown lands in Ontario, subject to conditions of the approval. This approval covers a wide range of routine or recurring activities including building forest access roads, harvesting trees, conducting forest maintenance and renewing the forest. It also provides guidance on the preparation, review, and approval of forest management plans.

The 55 conditions of the Declaration Order clearly define broad direction for forest management planning and complement the forest management planning principles of the Crown Forest Sustainability Act, 1994 (CFSA). Detailed technical direction for forest management continues to be applied through the Forest Management Planning Manual regulated under the CFSA.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Environment and/or the public can request amendments to the approval according to condition 53 of the approval.
