Declaration Order MNR-71, granted in June 2003 under the Environment Assessment Act, extends and amends the original 1994 Timber Class Environmental Assessment approval for forest management activities on Crown lands in the “Area of the Undertaking”, with 55 conditions. The approval covers a range of activities, including building access roads, harvesting trees, renewing the forest, and conducting forest maintenance operations (tending and protection). It provides direction for forest management planning, including the preparation, review and approval of forest management plans. It also includes provisions for monitoring and reporting of forest management implementation and continuing development of MNR’s forest management programs.
The conditions of the Declaration Order complement the forest management planning provisions of the Crown Forest Sustainability Act, 1994 (CFSA). Further technical direction for forest management planning is provided in the Forest Management Planning Manual (2009), a regulated manual under the CFSA.
