Annual Reports of Forest Operations Inspections

Condition 27(d) of Environmental Assessment Declaration Order MNR-71 and condition 34(c) of Environmental Assessment Declaration Order MNR-74 requires the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) to make available to the public, via this website, management unit annual reports of forest operations compliance inspections prepared in accordance with the Forest Management Planning Manual for a five-year period.

The annual reports of forest operations compliance inspections distinguish between reports of forest industry inspections and MNR inspections, and identify MNR inspections of incidents of non-compliance reported by the forest industry. Results from these reports are summarized at the provincial level in the MNR's Annual Report on Forest Management. Copies of individual forest operations compliance inspection reports are also available, upon request, from MNR’s local district offices.

The Crown forest in Ontario is divided into management units (MU). Most of these management units are managed by forest companies under a Sustainable Forest Licence (SFL). The SFL holder is the Plan Holder and is responsible for forest management planning, for carrying out forest operations activities (i.e.  Access, Harvest, Renewal and Maintenance), and for conducting the forest compliance monitoring program for the assigned MU.
