Available Wood Supply Opportunities

The Ontario Available Wood Report and maps are intended to identify potential wood supply opportunities for parties interested in new economic development opportunities in Ontario’s forest industry. The Ontario Available Wood Report identifies, as of the date on the report, the annual wood supply that is estimated as potentially available over the medium term (ten year investment horizon).

A variety of factors have been considered by the Ministry of Natural Resources in collaboration with forest management unit managers and existing industry stakeholders in estimating the potentially available wood supplies on each management unit in Ontario. Potentially available wood supplies by management unit are set out in the report to provide a province wide perspective.

The report is updated regularly to include the most current information available, though circumstances will continue to change and evolve beyond the date of the report. In general, the opportunities identified are potentially available for use in a forest resource processing facility; there may or may not be associated harvesting opportunities.

The Ontario Available Wood Report is intended for use as a guide only and users of these reports should be aware of its limitations. The Ministry does not make any representations or warranties as to the current or future availability of the wood supplies. Parties interested in available wood supply are responsible to independently verify the source, species, and volume of forest resources that may supply their facility and to obtain necessary authorizations and arrangements. Parties are strongly encouraged to contact the management unit contacts to determine opportunities or constraints, including but not limited to accessibility, fibre quality and costs.
