Current Programs:
Investors who choose Ontario are also choosing sustainable forest management. They can count on a competent workforce, a strategic geographical location, and a Province that works to enhance the competitiveness of its forest sector.
Over the last few years, the government implemented a series of measures to transform the forestry sector into green energy production, increase cost competitiveness, produce value-added products, explore exporting opportunities to new markets, promote Aboriginal economic development and attract foreign investment.
Since 2005, over $1 billion has been provided to the forestry sector through various initiatives. While some programs have closed to new applications, other forest sector programs are ongoing and have provided significant support to the industry.
The Northern Industrial Electricity Rebate Program and Northern Pulp and Paper Electricity Transition Program combined have provided more than $223 million toward reducing electricity costs for the forestry sector.
Under the Provincial Roads Funding Program, up to $75 million annually is made available to contribute to the expenses incurred by the forest industry to construct and maintain forest access roads.
The Ontario Wood Promotions Program is key to helping companies expand existing markets, identify non-traditional markets, improve the capacity of Ontario manufacturers to supply quality products and build awareness of the environmental benefits of wood.
We can help companies leverage financial support through our many contacts and strong relationships with other companies, stakeholders, agencies, various levels of government and First Nations.
