Supply agreements and licences provide forest products companies or individuals access to available forest resources in a designated management unit.
- Supply agreements provide an individual or company with a supply of forest resources (e.g. trees) from management units under the legal authority of the CFSA.
- Forest resource licences permit an individual or company to harvest forest resources (e.g. to cut trees) from designated management units subject to the terms and conditions of a forest resource licence under the legal authority of the CFSA.
The volume available for harvest under a forest resource licence is determined through the forest management planning process. The majority of Ontario's forests are harvested by companies or individuals issued one of two types of forest resource licences – Sustainable Forest Licences (SFLs) and Forest Resource Licences (FRLs). Most management units designated under the CFSA are managed under a SFL in accordance with the manuals regulated under the CFSA. For more information refer to the requirements set out in the Forest Management Planning Manual, the Scaling Manual and the Forest Operations and Silviculture Manual.
This section of the Forest Management Directives and Procedures describes the requirements under the Crown Forest Sustainability Act (CFSA) pertaining to general matters pertaining to manufacturing in Canada and dispute resolution; the administration of sustainable forest licensing, forest resource licences and forest resource processing facility licensing; and, wood measurement, which includes scaling competency, scaling training, agreements, penalties and special circumstances.
Procedures listed but not posted are currently under review and will be made available upon approval. Please refer to contacts if you require information about the procedures under review.
