Forest management on Crown lands in Ontario is comprised of a number of inter-related activities associated with accessing, harvesting and renewing the forest. The forest management planning process described in the Forest Management Planning Manual is designed to ensure that Ontario’s Crown forests will remain healthy in the future and provide sustainable benefits such as timber and commercial forest products, wildlife habitat and recreation opportunities for the people of Ontario.

This section of the Forest Management Directives and Procedures provides policy directions required to support the administration of the forest management planning process.  These requirements include the process for the designation of forest management units under Section 7 of the Crown Forest Sustainability Act and the process for approving analytical tools authorized for use under the Forest Management Planning Manual.
