Across the Far North, First Nation communities are working with Ontario to prepare community based land use plans. As planning teams work on plans, they may be interested in protecting certain areas before a final community based land use plan is complete. This is known as “provisional protection.”
Under the Far North Act, 2010, criteria for determining what areas can be placed under provisional protection need to be listed in a regulation. The Ontario government has developed a proposed approach to criteria that will lead to a regulation.
A provisional protection workbook provides information and asks questions to start a conversation and seek input on the proposed approach.
