Far North Advisory Council

The Ministry of Natural Resources established a Far North Advisory Council to provide advice and input on how to protect at least half of the Far North in an interconnected network of protected areas while considering social, economic and environmental priorities.

The Far North Advisory Council provided input and advice related to the development of the Far North planning process. The Council also advised on conservation of ecological features, resource management and development of economic opportunity in the region.

The Far North Advisory Council met regularly from September 30, 2008 and provided its consensus advice in March 2009. The Council represented the interests of key environmental organizations and resource-based industry associations for the forestry, mining, tourism, and electrical power generation and transmission sectors.
