Hunting Outside Ontario

If you plan to travel outside Ontario to hunt members of the deer family (i.e., deer, moose, caribou or elk), you are advised to check with state or provincial wildlife authorities in the area before traveling, to determine if there are import/export and disease testing requirements for harvested animals and their parts or products.

In addition, hunters hunting outside Ontario in areas where CWD is found should inquire about the practices for handling meat recommended by the jurisdiction in which they will be hunting.

Be aware that some states and provinces may have restrictions on transporting members of the deer family (deer, moose, caribou or elk) in or out of the jurisdiction even if Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has not been detected in that area.

In August 2010, new regulations to minimize the risk of CWD entering Ontario came into effect.  The rules apply to hunters using natural attractants; anyone who wishes to transport or possess carcasses or their high risk parts of any member of the deer family into Ontario; or anyone who wishes to transport live white-tailed deer, American elk, moose or woodland caribou into Ontario.  Get more information.

Please participate in the 2013 CWD testing program if you harvest deer in these Southeastern Ontario WMUs: 48, 55A, 55B, 58, 59, 63A and 63B
