Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)

Attention: In August 2010 rules went into effect for hunters using attractants containing any body parts of the deer family and anyone who wants to bring carcasses/parts or live captive deer, elk, moose or caribou into Ontario.

What is Chronic Wasting Disease...

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a degenerative, fatal brain disease that can affect white-tailed deer, elk, mule deer, moose and potentially woodland caribou.

CWD Causes and Symptoms...

Researchers are  beginning to better understand Chronic Wasting Disease.

2013 CWD Testing Locations...

The Ministry of Natural Resources' 2013 monitoring program for Chronic Wasting Disease in wild deer populations will be conducted in the southeastern and southcentral Ontario areas around South River, Mattawa, Deep River, Barry's Bay, Pembroke, Renfrew, Arnprior, Perth, Sharbot Lake, Cloyne and Plevna. View a map of the Wildlife Management Units that will be tested in 2013.

There is no evidence that any Ontario deer, elk, moose or woodland caribou are infected with CWD.

Please participate in the 2013 CWD testing program if you harvest deer in these Southeastern Ontario WMUs: 48, 55A, 55B, 58, 59, 63A and 63B
