Conservation Officers promote respect and stewardship of Ontario's natural heritage by helping educate the public about wildlife and the ethical use of our natural resources. They help the public understand the value of our resources and their rights and privileges as resource users.
Some of the proactive enforcement activities conducted by Conservation Officers may include:
- Road check stations
- Border checks
- Enforcement blitzes
- Boat launch and bait bucket checks
- Delivering presentations and talks to school and youth groups
- Attendance and participation at local community events such as fishing derbies, charitable fundraising events and meetings with special interest groups and clubs

Conservation Officers use these activities to help inform and educate the public about:
- The regulations that protect Species at Risk
- How to recognize and help prevent the spread of invasive species
- Public safety concerns such as consumption or sale of contaminated fish or game
- Prevention of forest fires
- Boating safety and how to prepare fish for transport
- Changes to the fishing and hunting regulations
- How to help protect our natural resources by reporting known or suspected resource abuse to the TIPS-MNR violation reporting line.
