A Marmora man has been fined a total of $3,000 for hunting offences.
Brian Fry pleaded guilty to hunting a cow moose without a cow moose validation seal and was fined $2,000. In addition, he pleaded guilty to attaching a calf moose validation seal to the cow moose and was fined $1,000.
The court heard that on October 19, 2010, Fry shot a cow moose. Four hours after the kill, he placed his calf moose validation seal on the animal claiming it was a calf moose.
Justice of the Peace Diane Jackson heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Minden, on December 2, 2010.
To ensure a healthy moose population, only a limited number of bull and cow validation tags are allocated in any Wildlife Management Unit. Hunters are reminded that if they make a mistake, they should contact the ministry as soon as possible. Officers will take into account the circumstances of the incident.
