$4,000 in Fines and Suspension for Illegal Moose Hunt
An Ottawa man has been fined $4,000 for his part in the illegal hunting of two moose in the River Valley area and received a two-year hunting suspension.
Gerald Raymond pleaded guilty to possession of an illegally killed cow moose and bull moose and was fined $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. He was fined an additional $1,000 for providing false information to a conservation officer. Raymond is also prohibited from hunting all wildlife in Ontario for two years and forfeited his rifle and his portion of the moose meat to the Crown. Ammunition and a trailer that were also seized will be returned once his fines are paid.
The court heard that an undercover investigation by conservation officers in October 2009 revealed that Raymond was a member of a hunting party that killed two adult moose for which they did not have the proper tags.
Several other party members have similar charges still before the court.
The case was heard by Justice of the Peace Monique Seguin in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sturgeon Falls, on November 15, 2010.
