$10,000 Fine for Well Site Leak
A London company has been fined $10,000 for a well site leak.
Madeline Brett, president of Cameron Petroleum Inc., pleaded guilty to causing or permitting the waste or loss of oil and other hydrocarbons from a storage tank at one of the company’s oil well sites.
The charge related to a leak from a storage tank that resulted in pollution of the natural environment at an oil well site. The site in Blandford Township was being decommissioned by the company. Cameron Petroleum Inc., which has since cleaned up the site, operates 59 oil and natural gas well sites throughout southwestern Ontario.
Justice of the Peace Jake Bruinwood heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Woodstock, on November 10, 2010.
The Oil, Gas and Salt Resources Act regulates the operations of the petroleum industry in Ontario. All operators of oil and natural gas wells in the province are required to follow standards established in the Provincial Operating Standards.
