Logger Fined $5,000 For Cutting Trees on Crown Land
Barry Verch of Eganville has been fined $5,000 after pleading guilty to harvesting timber in a Crown forest without a licence.
In October 2008, information was received by Ministry of Natural Resources Bancroft District conservation officers that unauthorized cutting of trees had occurred on Crown land. An investigation concluded that during June and July 2008, over 300 trees had been illegally cut on Crown land in Burleigh Township. Verch, who had been cutting private land bordering the Crown land, admitted responsibility for the illegal cutting.
Justice of the Peace Michael O’Toole heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Peterborough, on October 14, 2010.
