$1,500 Fine For Careless Hunting On Lake St. Clair

A Wallaceburg resident has been fined $1,500 for careless hunting.

Nathan Salisbury pleaded guilty to the charge under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. In addition to the fine, he also had his hunting privileges suspended for two years. During this time, he may not engage in any activity that requires a licence to hunt, be in the possession of hunting equipment other than in his residence, guide hunters or be in the presence of any person who is hunting. The court further ordered that Salisbury must successfully complete the Ontario Hunter Education Program before reapplying for a hunting licence.

Court heard that on November 22, 2009, Salisbury was guiding three hunters on a migratory bird hunt in the Mitchell’s Bay area of Lake St. Clair. During this hunt, Salisbury took a shot directly in line with other hunters. Some of his shot hit the side of the other hunters’ boat and some shot landed inside their boat.

Justice of the Peace Elaine Babcock heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Chatham, on September 1, 2010.
