Aggregate Company Fined $8,000 For Cutting Trees Without A Licence
An aggregate company based in Pontypool has been fined $8,000 for violating a condition of its aggregate permit.
C.D.R. Young’s Aggregates Inc., which operates a limestone quarry north of the town of Bobcaygeon, pleaded guilty to the charge after clearing about 21 hectares of trees on the site during the spring of 2009 without first obtaining a Forest Resource Licence.
The company's aggregate permit requires it to have a licence before harvesting any trees on the site.
Justice of the Peace Carl Young heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Peterborough, on August 12, 2010.
Aggregate sites are strictly regulated by conditions set out in permits, licences and site plans that are specific to each site and are monitored and enforced by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
