Three Toronto Men Fined For Trespassing To Hunt
Three Toronto men were fined a total of $2,000 for hunting offences.
Konstantinos Papadopoulos, Elias Papadopoulos and Athanasios Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to trespassing to hunt and were each fined $500. Konstantinos Papadopoulos pleaded guilty and was fined an additional $500 for knowingly making a false statement to a conservation officer. He also received a two-year hunting suspension.
The court heard that during the November 2009 controlled deer hunt in Mulmur Township, Dufferin County, a conservation officer received a complaint about hunters trespassing on a property. When the officer arrived at the property, he found two deer that had been shot and killed by the hunters. When questioned by the officer, Konstantinos Papadopoulos claimed that they were hunting with permission from the landowner. An investigation revealed that they did not have the landowner’s permission. In addition, the property was clearly marked with signs bearing red dots indicating there is no trespassing.
Justice of the Peace Donald Dudar heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Orangeville, on August 4, 2010.
Hunters are encouraged to check on an annual basis with landowners to ensure they still have permission to hunt the property and to determine if other parties will be hunting the property as well.
