$1,700 Fine For Multiple Offences Including Fishing In Sanctuary
A Toronto resident has been fined a total of $1,700 after he was convicted of several fishing offences.
Vincent John White pleaded guilty to all charges and was fined $1,000 for fishing in a sanctuary, $200 for fishing without a licence and $500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer.
The court heard that on April 3, 2010, a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer found White fishing in the fish sanctuary at Burleigh Falls, in Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Township, Peterborough County. Fishing is prohibited in fish sanctuaries. The officer found that White had one live walleye in his possession, which the officer released. When the officer requested identification, White gave a false name.
Justice of the Peace Jason Mariasine heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, in Peterborough, on June 10, 2010.
