$2,500 Fine For Shooting Across Road
A Bowmanville man has been fined $2,500 after being convicted of shooting across a roadway in the Municipality of Clarington.
Harold Parrott pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm across a roadway. His firearm was seized and will be returned when the fine is paid.
The court heard that the Ministry of Natural Resources had received public complaints of illegal hunting activity in the Municipality of Clarington. On November 5, 2009, conservation officers set out a model of a deer known as a deer decoy. Parrott saw the decoy, got out of his vehicle, walked onto the property across and fired a shot directly across the roadway towards the decoy.
Justice of the Peace John T. MacDonald heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Whitby, on May 26, 2010.
