$1,000 Fine for Illegal Deer Hunting

A Powassan area man has been fined a total of $1,000 for illegal deer hunting.

Nathan Stewart pleaded guilty and was fined $500 for illegally killing a white-tailed deer and $500 for trespassing to hunt. A rifle seized during the investigation will be returned upon payment of fines.

On November 8, 2009, Stewart killed an antlerless deer while hunting in Chisholm Township but did not have a licence permitting him to do so. In addition, the deer was killed on private property on which he did not have permission to hunt.

Justice of the Peace Monique Seguin heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, North Bay, on May 20, 2010.
