$3,000 Fine for Dredging Shorelands Without a Permit

A Callander man has been fined for dredging the shorelands of Lake Nipissing without a work permit.

Joe Nimens pleaded guilty and was fined $3,000. He was also ordered to repair the damaged area and return it to its natural state.

An investigation by the Ministry of Natural Resources in August 2009 found that work had been done on the shorelands although no work permit had been issued authorizing the work.

Justice of the Peace Michel Moreau heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, North Bay, April 29, 2010.

Landowners are reminded that work permits are required before working in the water or on shorelands.
