$3,050 Fine And Two-year Suspension For Illegal Deer Hunting

A Toronto-area man has been fined a total of $3,050 for illegal deer hunting.

Peter Chilikoff pleaded guilty and was fined $1,700 for illegally killing two white-tailed deer during the closed season, $850 for possessing illegally killed wildlife and $500 for trespassing to hunt. His deer hunting privileges have also been suspended for two years. An all-terrain vehicle and a rifle seized during the investigation will be returned upon payment of fines.

On November 3, 2008, prior to the opening of the local deer season, Chilikoff killed two white-tailed deer and hung them in a tree on his property at Duck Creek Road in the Municipality of West Nipissing. DNA analysis determined they had been killed on an adjoining neighbour’s property and transported to Chilikoff’s property. The ministry’s canine unit was used to determine the kill locations and find the two deer carcasses.

Justice of the Peace Pierre Leclerc heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sturgeon Falls, on April 19, 2010.
