$5,000 In Fines For Illegal Deer Hunting Activities

Two men have been fined a total of $5,000 for illegally using another person’s deer seal and transporting illegally killed wildlife.

Terry Cole of Cameron and George Palmer of Fenelon Falls pleaded guilty to charges under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and were each fined $2,500.

Court heard that on Saturday, December 5, 2009, a conservation officer visited a property where two large, nine-point white-tailed deer were hanging from a tree.  One deer had been shot by Cole on December 1, 2009, and the other had been shot by Palmer on December 3, 2009.  Both deer were shot in Somerville Township in the City of Kawartha Lakes.  Further investigation revealed that both deer had been tagged by individuals who weren’t present or legally party hunting with Cole and Palmer when the deer were shot.  Both deer were seized.

Justice of the Peace Jason Mariasine heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Lindsay, on February 26, 2010.
