Fines of $8,500 for Illegal Aggregate Pits and Road Construction


Detour Gold Corporation has been fined $8,500 for violations against the Aggregate Resources Act, the Public Lands Act and the Crown Forest Sustainability Act.

 

Detour Gold pleaded guilty to two offences of operating an aggregate pit without a permit and was fined a total of $5,000.  The company also pleaded guilty to constructing a road within a 400-foot shoreline reservation and for the removal of Crown trees in the process, and was fined a total of $3,500.

 

Court heard that during the summer of 2009, the Ministry of Natural Resources discovered the violations while conducting site inspections on aggregate pits at Detour Lake Mine Project, in the District of Cochrane.
 
Justice of the Peace Dolores Boyuk heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Cochrane, on November 19, 2009.
