$2,000 Fine For Moose Hunting Violations
A Hearst man convicted of hunting violations has been fined a total of $ 2,000.
Corey Wesley was fined $1,000 for unlawfully hunting moose at night and $1,000 for making a false statement to a conservation officer.
On September 18, 2008, at approximately 11:00 p.m. Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers responded to a public complaint of suspicious activity in Staunton Township, near the village of Val Cote. Officers observed a spotlight sweeping the area, which confirmed the presence of night hunting activity. A vehicle was stopped and a rifle and ammunition were found, along with a moose call.
Wesley also made false and misleading statements to the investigating officers.
Justice of the Peace Delores Boyuk heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Hearst, on November 24, 2009.
